Primero Post: Dean Smith Documentary

The daily dose of sTatements starts today with a shameful plug for myself. How fitting for this format, but I found out this morning from John Sweeney that I'm going to be working with Flagstaff Films on a documentary centered on the legendary life of Coach Dean Smith.

Here's some info on Flagstaff Films:

"Flagstaff Films has been developing, directing and editing Documentary films for Network clients including HBO, CBS, The History Channel, A&E, ESPN, Fox, and MTV, since 1983. They have received seven Emmy Awards and three prestigious George F. Foster Peabody Awards. Many other numerous Industry honors include 13 Cine Golden Eagle Awards."

The opportunity to work on a project about Coach Smith is honestly beyond humbling. He's one of the true great people in the world of sports. If you don't believe that, then watch any interview in which a former player, coach or person discusses the impact he had on their life. The prime example of this truth is epitomized with current UNC coach Roy Williams, who continues to choke up whenever he discusses the character and compassion possessed by Coach Smith.

Here a few iconic photos of the man who cultivated the timeless Carolina basketball culture

In the words of Coach Smith, "What do you do with a mistake? Recognize it, admit it, learn from it, forget it." Thank you Coach Smith for teaching all who listened how to be better human beings. That's why I love sports today.
